Italian skier Matteo Franzoso is in a medically induced coma after suffering a severe fall during training in Chile on Saturday.

According to the Italian Winter Sports Federation, the 25-year-old athlete sustained a major head injury and is receiving treatment at a hospital in Santiago. Medical staff provided immediate assistance at the scene before Franzoso was airlifted by helicopter to the Chilean capital.

Franzoso, who has competed internationally for Italy, claimed victory in a super-G race on the European Cup circuit in 2021. However, he has yet to break into the top 20 in a World Cup event.
