Kano POS operator returns N9.9 million to customer

Writer: Victor NwokoVictor Nwoko

A businessman at Dawanau grain market in Kano, who mistakenly transferred N10 million instead of N10,000 to a Point of Sale (POS) Operator, has successfully retrieved his money.

The incident occurred on December 21 last year when the trader mistakenly sent N10 million to 37-year-old Mohammed Sani Abdulrahman, thinking it was N10,000.

Abdulrahman, the POS operator, was unaware of the large sum received until he noticed an excess of N9,990,000 in his account.

He promptly reported the transaction to the police, leading to a three-month investigation by police detectives.

Superintendent of Police Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa stated that on March 14, 2024, police detectives led by Abdulwahab Zubairu of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) identified the businessman as the rightful owner of the excess funds.

Consequently, the businessman was reimbursed N9,990,000 through his account, leaving him short of only the initial N10,000.

Kano Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, commended the POS operator for his honesty and integrity. The businessman, acknowledging his mistake, expressed gratitude to the POS operator and the police for facilitating the recovery of his money.
