Kansas City Chiefs superfan and mom of 2, killed in Super Bowl parade shooting (Video)
A devoted mother of two and passionate Kansas City Chiefs supporter tragically lost her life during the Wednesday afternoon shooting near the team’s hometown Super Bowl victory parade, as reported.
Lisa Lopez-Galvan succumbed to injuries sustained from a gunshot wound to her abdomen during surgery at a local hospital, as confirmed by her loved ones to the Kansas City Star.
Described as "the most wonderful, beautiful person" by longtime friend Lisa Lopez, who works as The Star’s newsroom executive administrative assistant, Lopez-Galvan was a familiar figure in the community. She was renowned as a local DJ, often lending her talent to weddings and events, and was cherished for her vibrant spirit.
It remains uncertain if Lopez-Galvan is the sole casualty, or if her tragic death marks another fatality, amidst the chaos of the shooting. Before her passing, Lopez-Galvan's Facebook profile was flooded with messages of hope and prayers for her recovery.
During an evening press conference, police disclosed that one individual lost their life, and twenty-two others, including nine children, were wounded when multiple assailants unleashed gunfire upon the crowd gathered for the parade festivities.
According to accounts from friends and relatives, Lopez-Galvan's adult son sustained a gunshot wound, and one of her two cousins believed to be minors, was also injured during the tumult.
Residing in Shawnee with her husband and children, Lopez-Galvan, in her mid-40s, was actively involved as a disc jockey for community radio station KKFI, and co-hosted Tejano Tuesday, a program spotlighting Hispanic music. Her brother, Beto Lopez, serves as the president and chief executive officer of the Guadalupe Centers, as reported by The Star.
An ardent Kansas City Chiefs enthusiast, Lopez-Galvan's social media presence was adorned with fervent support for her beloved team in the days leading up to their triumphant second consecutive Super Bowl victory last Sunday.
According to Lisa Lopez, a colleague at The Star, Lopez-Galvan had reached out on Monday, expressing her desire to acquire a commemorative edition of the newspaper to commemorate her cherished team's historic win.
"She had a beautiful family and radiated happiness," Lopez fondly recalled.
A spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department refrained from confirming Lopez-Galvan's identity as the confirmed fatality from the shooting, citing the necessity to notify the victim's family first.
Three individuals have been apprehended in connection with the incident, as the investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
