Teresea Kemunto, a young mother from Embakasi, tragically lost her life following a violent assault by her partner, 27-year-old Oscar Oundo, after he accused her of infidelity. The couple had been in a come-we-stay relationship and were raising a two-year-old son together.
According to family members, the incident occurred on the evening of Thursday, April 18th. The altercation was triggered after Oundo accessed Kemunto’s WhatsApp messages and allegedly found conversations that led him to believe she was involved with another man. A confrontation followed, which turned violent, leaving Kemunto with serious injuries.
Despite the severity of the assault, Kemunto managed to reach the Soweto Police Station to report the incident. She was then taken to a city hospital for treatment, where she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.
Oscar Oundo was arrested shortly after her death and is currently in custody at the Soweto Police Station—the same station where Kemunto had initially sought help. The family is now calling on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to pursue justice for their daughter and ensure accountability for her death.
Kemunto’s death has sparked renewed concerns over domestic violence and intimate partner femicide, which continue to claim lives across Kenya. Rights advocates are urging authorities to strengthen protective measures for victims of gender-based violence and ensure swift legal action in such cases.
