A 42-year-old Kenyan woman, Hulda Bochere Mosiori, was fatally shot by her former partner in a murder-suicide that occurred in her residence in Minnesota, United States, on the morning of Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
Mosiori, a mother of four and a respected psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP), was killed by 51-year-old Mel Melchizedek, a man believed to be her ex-partner and the father of at least one of her children. According to authorities, Melchizedek entered Mosiori’s home in a rage and opened fire, killing her before using the same firearm to end his own life.

Law enforcement responded to a report at approximately 8:33 a.m. regarding a man with a gun who had confronted a neighbor on the 15200 block of Snowy Owl Street NW. The suspect then returned to a nearby residence. Upon entry, officers discovered both Mosiori and Melchizedek dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
Authorities lifted a temporary shelter-in-place order shortly after confirming there was no further threat to the public. The Ramsey Police Department, Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, and the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office are continuing their joint investigation into the case.

The shocking incident has reverberated through the local Minnesota community and the Kenyan diaspora, prompting an outpouring of grief and tributes. Roselidah Nyaboke, a community member, described Mosiori as a beloved daughter and a dedicated healthcare professional who had made significant contributions to mental health care and entrepreneurship.
Mosiori’s tragic death has sparked efforts among family and friends to organize vigils and community support for her surviving children.
