The abductors of Nelson Adepoyigi, a ward chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, have escalated the situation by detaining two individuals sent to deliver ransom and food supplies, while issuing a fresh demand of ₦30 million for the release of all three captives.

Adepoyigi was abducted from his residence in Ifon town around 10 p.m. on Monday. According to eyewitness accounts, the gunmen stormed his home, beat him with sticks, and forcibly dragged him away. His wife, who rushed out after hearing his screams, discovered he had been taken by the armed assailants.

Initially, the kidnappers demanded ₦100 million for Adepoyigi’s release, but later reduced the ransom to ₦5 million along with food items after negotiations with the victim’s family and community leaders. However, the situation took a dramatic turn when the two men who delivered the agreed ransom—identified as Bayode Loco and Isimeri—were also captured by the kidnappers.

A local APC chieftain confirmed the development, revealing that the captors reneged on the original agreement after receiving the payment and food items. “Those who took the ransom to them, as agreed during negotiations, were held by the same kidnappers. They have now turned around to demand a fresh ₦30 million before they can release all three of them,” the source said.

Confirming the incident, Chairman of Ose Local Government Area, Hon. Kolapo Ojo, stated that the abductors had initially agreed to the ₦5 million payment and food items but have now increased their demand under suspicious and alarming circumstances.

The incident has heightened tension in the local community, prompting calls for urgent intervention by security agencies to secure the safe release of the victims and address the growing threat of kidnapping in the region.
