BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Kim Kardashian has officially completed her legal apprenticeship, bringing her one step closer to becoming a licensed attorney in California. Her representative confirmed the milestone on Wednesday, making the reality TV star and entrepreneur eligible to sit for the state’s notoriously challenging bar exam.
Kardashian, 43, marked the occasion with a private ceremony at the Beverly Hills Hotel, where she was seen wearing a graduation cap and smiling in a post shared to her Instagram Story. The celebration came after six years of dedicated study through California’s legal apprenticeship pathway, which allows individuals to become lawyers by studying under a practicing attorney or judge instead of attending traditional law school.
Jessica Jackson, an attorney and criminal justice reform advocate who mentored Kardashian throughout the program, described her journey as “one of the most inspiring legal journeys we’ve ever seen.” In a video of the event, Jackson recalled the commitment Kardashian showed since entering the program.
“Six years ago, Kim Kardashian walked into this program with nothing but a fierce desire to fight for justice,” Jackson said. “No law school lectures, no ivory tower shortcuts, just determination. And a mountain of case law books to read.”
According to Jackson, Kardashian dedicated approximately 18 hours a week, 48 weeks a year for six consecutive years to her legal studies.
Kardashian’s interest in law echoes the legacy of her late father, Robert Kardashian, a high-profile attorney who was part of O.J. Simpson’s legal defense team in the 1990s. Now, she hopes to earn her own license to practice law by passing the California bar exam.
The announcement comes just days after Kardashian appeared in a Paris courtroom on May 13, where she testified about the traumatic 2016 armed robbery she experienced. Recounting the terrifying event, Kardashian told the court, “I absolutely did think I was going to die,” and added, “I was certain that was the moment that he was going to rape me.”
In recent years, Kardashian has become a prominent voice in criminal justice reform. She successfully advocated for the commutation of Alice Marie Johnson’s life sentence in 2018, meeting with then-President Donald Trump to push for the release of the grandmother who had been serving time for nonviolent drug offenses.
If Kardashian passes the bar exam, she will officially become a licensed attorney and further her mission to reform the justice system.
