A North Carolina landscaper is facing multiple charges after allegedly hosting a wild unauthorized party at a $4.3 million mansion in Weddington while the homeowners were out of town.

Michael Brown, 37, owner of Brown's Dream Team Landscaping, had previously been contracted to maintain the property’s lawn. But on Saturday, he allegedly turned the upscale residence into the site of a large, chaotic gathering involving hundreds of teenagers and young adults.

According to the Union County Sheriff's Office, Brown hosted the event without the homeowners’ permission and collected entry fees from attendees. Investigators estimate 300 to 400 guests attended the party, prompting numerous noise complaints and concerns from neighbors.

“I was like, that’s not a venue,” said a nearby resident. “We were disturbed with all the traffic, the cars, and not knowing what was happening.”

Authorities arrived and quickly shut down the gathering, identifying Brown as the organizer. Brown initially claimed to be the homeowner and said the party was a graduation celebration for his son. However, inconsistencies in his story led to his arrest.

He was charged with breaking and entering, second-degree trespassing, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, injury to real property, and obtaining property by false pretenses. Officers also recovered over $3,000 from the scene, believed to be collected from attendees.

Lieutenant James Maye of the Union County Sheriff's Office confirmed there was significant underage drinking during the event and described the party as dangerous and disorderly. Despite the charges, Brown maintained he didn’t break the law.

“I just broke some rules of probably what the owners didn't want me to do, but I didn't break the law,” Brown told reporters, adding that he hosted the party to create “a positive environment” and generate income.

Brown denied charging an entry fee, claiming guests were only paying for security. But law enforcement remains unconvinced.

The homeowners’ son, Jante Burch, strongly refuted Brown’s claims of a close relationship with the family. “Bro, you cut the grass. You’re the hired help. That’s it,” Burch said. “He’s delusional. Not only has he lost a client, he’s probably lost a lot of other clients in that neighborhood.”

Burch also described the aftermath of the party as “a hot mess,” citing damage, marijuana use on the property, and unauthorized use of the home’s pool and amenities.

Brown was released later the same day on a $10,000 bond. The investigation remains ongoing.
