Man arrested for allegedly strangling wife in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command announced the arrest of Michael Chidozie for allegedly assaulting and strangling his wife, Mrs. Ufuoma Eriera Chidozie, in their Mile 4 residence near Port Harcourt, resulting in her death.


Mrs. Chidozie, a mother of three boys aged 10, seven, and five, reportedly succumbed to injuries sustained from the assault on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.


Upon discovery of her body by her brother, who responded to a distress call from the suspect, Michael Chidozie had fled the scene, leaving the house deserted. The couple had been experiencing financial difficulties, which had led to tensions in their relationship.


Michael Chidozie was apprehended by the Agip Police Division, Mile 4, Port Harcourt, on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, based on credible information.


Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the arrest, stating that investigations were ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Port Harcourt.


The victim's body has been deposited in the mortuary, with plans for an autopsy agreed upon by the police and the family to aid investigations before her burial.
