A man, yet to be identified, reportedly fell from one of the upper floors of the 26-storey Cocoa House building in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Monday morning, sparking panic among members of the business community in the area.
Eyewitnesses described the incident as both shocking and disturbing. One witness, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the fall was so unexpected that they initially mistook the man for a bird. “When the incident happened, I initially thought it was a large bird falling from the sky. It was only when the person landed that I realised it was a human being. I had my phone with me but I couldn’t even record anything because I was completely shocked.”
Another observer at the scene noted that the victim struck a roof near the security post of the building before hitting the ground. “It was a terrifying sight,” the eyewitness said.
The specific circumstances surrounding the fall remain unclear, and authorities have launched an investigation to determine what led to the incident.
Odu’a Investment Company Limited, the managers of Cocoa House, confirmed the occurrence in a statement released on Tuesday. Victor Ayetoro, Head of Branding and Communication for the company, stated that the victim was immediately attended to by emergency responders and taken to the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan for urgent medical attention.
The company expressed its concern and assured the public of its full cooperation with the ongoing investigation into the cause of the fall. Further updates are expected as inquiries progress.
