Man Hacks His 90-year-old Grandmother To Death And Absconds With Her N16,750 In Akwa Ibom

A man identified as Nkereuwem Umoren Ekpo has been arrested by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command for the alleged murder of his grandmother.

Ekpo is accused of killing his 90-year-old grandmother with a machete and stealing N16,750 from her.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara, disclosed this during a parade of the suspect along with 51 others arrested for various crimes in the state on Friday.

"On February 25, 2024, at about 1400Hrs, one Nkereuwen Umoren Ekpo, a resident of Adiasim Ikot Udo village in Essien Udim Local Government Area, was arrested for the murder of his grandmother, Martina Udoudo Akpan, aged about 90 years," the CP stated.

"The suspect allegedly used a machete to cut his grandmother's neck while they were cutting cassava stem in the farm, resulting in her death. He then took N16,750 from the deceased's possession and fled the scene."
