Man fighting for life after stabbing on train as police hunt attacker

A man is in critical condition after being stabbed aboard a moving train in front of horrified passengers in London.

The assault occurred on a Southeastern service shortly after departing Shortlands railway station, heading towards Beckenham Junction, on Wednesday afternoon.

Unverified footage circulating on social media shows an individual in dark attire and a hooded puffer jacket holding what appears to be a large blade, while a passenger can be heard shouting, "F****** stop it now!" before alerting the police.

The attack unfolded near one of the carriage's exit doors, with a discarded baseball cap visible at the assailant's feet during the assault.

A witness, who was present at Beckenham Junction, recounted to The Independent: "There was some blood and what looked like a discarded jacket and a dropped plastic bag of shopping."

Police cordoned off Beckenham Junction station as they investigate the violent incident. Authorities have issued a plea for witnesses to step forward, and as of now, no arrests have been made.

A spokesperson from the British Transport Police (BTP) stated: "Detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a man was seriously injured at Beckenham Junction today."

The statement continued: "At around 3.56 pm today (27 March), we received reports of two men fighting while entering a train at Shortlands railway station. A man sustained serious injuries consistent with being stabbed."

"Officers responded, alongside colleagues from the Metropolitan Police Service and the London Ambulance Service, and the victim was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Investigations are ongoing, and no arrests have been made thus far."

A spokesperson from Southeastern trains acknowledged the seriousness of the incident, stating: "We are aware of a serious incident on board one of our services this afternoon. We are urgently assisting the British Transport Police and would urge anyone with any information to contact them immediately."

"All of our trains are equipped with CCTV, and we will be providing this footage to the British Transport Police to aid in their investigations."

The spokesperson added: "We also have an integrated safeguarding team, comprised of Southeastern, BTP, and Network Rail colleagues, and we are already collaborating to identify those responsible."
