In Yar Gwanda Village, Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, tragedy struck as a 60-year-old man known as Malam Danjuma, his 35-year-old son Ibrahim, and 35-year-old Aminu Gaye lost their lives while attempting to retrieve a mobile phone from a latrine.

According to Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, the incident unfolded when 28-year-old Abba Alasan raised an emergency call from Tsanyawa Fire Station around 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, reporting that four men were trapped inside a pit toilet. The rescue team was swiftly dispatched and arrived at the scene by 11:15 a.m.

Abdullahi explained, "Danjuma was attempting to recover a cellphone that had fallen into the pit toilet and became trapped. In an effort to save his father, Ibrahim entered the pit and also became trapped. Gaye and Alasan subsequently entered to rescue the trapped men and also became trapped themselves."

The rescue efforts managed to save the first three victims, although they were unconscious upon extraction. Fortunately, the fourth victim, Abba Alasan, was rescued alive.

All the victims were then transferred to Superintendent of Police Iro Lado at Tsanyawa Police Division. From there, they were taken to Bichi Special Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed three fatalities and one survivor.
