Man, woman arrested in connection to dead baby found in Florida trash bin
A woman suspected to be the mother of an infant discovered dead in a trash bin earlier this year has been arrested, along with a man accused of aiding in disposing of the body outside a South Florida apartment complex.
Both individuals face charges of failure to report a death, with the man also charged with illegal disposal of a body, as stated by Hollywood police on Friday night.
The baby, a full-term boy with an umbilical cord still attached, was found on Jan. 7 by a roofing company worker who detected a foul odor. Inside a reusable shopping bag within the trash bin, the baby was discovered, prompting the worker to notify authorities, according to a police affidavit.
Using video surveillance, police traced the car owner who had stopped near the trash bin and later utilized text messages exchanged between the man and woman, along with DNA samples from the shopping bag, to locate the mother.
An autopsy revealed no signs of trauma or injury on the baby, as stated in the affidavit. Further testing is underway to determine if the baby was born alive or stillborn, thus establishing the final cause of death.
