A large-scale manhunt is underway in north Georgia after a veteran police officer was critically injured in a late-night shooting.
Captain Brantley Worley of the McCaysville Police Department was shot in the throat around 11:10 p.m. on Friday while responding to a 911 call. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Timothy Craig Ramsey, remains at large and is considered armed and extremely dangerous.

Authorities said the shooting occurred in McCaysville, a small town on the Georgia-Tennessee border. Worley was airlifted to a Chattanooga hospital, where he is in critical condition with a broken neck, brain bleeding, and fluid in his lungs, according to Police Chief Otis Earley.
Worley’s wife, Jessica, confirmed she is by his side in the ICU, vowing not to leave until he comes home.
Multiple agencies are involved in the search for Ramsey, including the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office, and Homeland Security Investigations.

Ramsey is described as a 5’11” white male weighing about 185 pounds, with long blonde hair and blue eyes. He was last seen on 1st Street wearing a green shirt, dark pants, and a dark motorcycle helmet. Police urge the public not to approach him but to call 911 immediately with any information.
Ramsey has been charged with aggravated assault with intent to murder a police officer, a charge that could be upgraded if Captain Worley does not survive.
Governor Brian Kemp issued a statement of support on Saturday, urging Georgians to pray for the wounded officer and all law enforcement who risk their lives daily.
Captain Worley, a 15-year veteran of the force, was promoted to captain on July 21. He also serves as a certified field training officer and firearms instructor.
