Basketball icon Michael Jordan is making his return to the sport—this time off the court—as a special contributor for NBC’s coverage of the NBA, which is set to begin broadcasting games later this year. The announcement was made during NBC’s annual presentation in New York as the network revealed its plans for the upcoming NBA season.
Jordan, a six-time NBA champion and Hall of Fame legend with the Chicago Bulls, expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, stating, "I am so excited to see the NBA back on NBC. The NBA on NBC was a meaningful part of my career, and I’m excited about being a special contributor to the project. I’m looking forward to seeing you all when the NBA on NBC launches this October."

The move marks Jordan’s first official involvement in basketball since August 2023, when he sold his majority stake in the Charlotte Hornets for over $3 billion. Since then, he has focused on 23XI Racing, the NASCAR team he co-owns, but his upcoming media role signals a renewed presence in the basketball world.
NBC Sports president Rick Cordella said, "Michael’s legacy both on and off the court speaks for itself. We’re incredibly proud to have him join our coverage." Jordan will bring unique insight and commentary to the broadcasts, blending his unparalleled experience with NBC’s revamped NBA programming.
Jordan is widely regarded as the greatest player in NBA history, boasting an unblemished record in the NBA Finals with six championships, five MVP awards, and 14 All-Star selections. He spent the majority of his career with the Chicago Bulls before finishing his playing days with the Washington Wizards.
NBC's return to NBA broadcasting comes as part of an 11-year media rights deal Comcast signed last July. ESPN/ABC and Amazon will also carry NBA games under the new arrangement, while NBC will stream additional coverage on its Peacock platform.
