A 29-year-old Michigan man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly coercing his 11-year-old daughter into assisting with a home invasion in Detroit—only to abandon her when the burglary was interrupted, according to prosecutors.
Andre Stephon-Curtis Broadenax is accused of stealing a vehicle in Dearborn on April 29 before driving approximately 15 minutes to a home under renovation in a quiet Detroit neighborhood. Prosecutors allege that upon arrival, Broadenax broke into the property and forced his daughter to participate in the break-in.

“The defendant forced his 11-year-old daughter to assist him with the home invasion,” stated the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
The attempted burglary was disrupted when the homeowner’s 75-year-old son unexpectedly arrived and discovered the pair inside. Broadenax allegedly fled on foot, leaving his daughter behind, but was apprehended shortly afterward by officers from the Detroit Police Department.
The incident shocked residents of the typically peaceful neighborhood. David Bridges, a longtime local and father of eight, expressed outrage over the suspect’s actions.

“As me being a father of eight kids, I can’t see me using none of my kids to actually break into a house or do anything to harm another person because it’s wrong,” said Bridges. “Right now, you could have just lost your life and your child’s, so it’s really sad.”
Broadenax faces charges including first-degree home invasion, second-degree home invasion, larceny in a building, receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle, inducing a minor to commit a felony, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
His next court appearance is scheduled for May 14.
