Ana Bárbara Buhr Buldrini, a 31-year-old singer who lives in Mozambique, tragically died after undergoing multiple cosmetic procedures at a private clinic in Istanbul, Turkey. Her husband, artist Elgar Miles, has raised serious concerns over the circumstances surrounding her death, including an alleged night out with the operating surgeon the evening before the surgery.
Ana Bárbara traveled with Miles from Maputo to Istanbul on Friday for a series of elective surgeries—breast augmentation, liposuction, and rhinoplasty. According to Miles, the procedures were arranged in exchange for promotional content for Tusa Hospital.

“She wanted to undergo these procedures to improve her aesthetic standards. It was a dream of hers,” Miles said, noting that the couple had been married just a month earlier on May 3.
The couple reportedly spent Saturday night out drinking with the surgeon performing the operation. Although the initial procedure was scheduled for Wednesday, Miles said they requested to delay it by a day for rest and recovery. However, due to the surgeon’s scheduling conflicts, the operation was moved forward to Sunday.

“We went to the clinic on Sunday just to see the place,” said Miles, “but the doctor wanted to perform the procedure without Ana being prepared.”
Despite expressing concerns, Miles claimed that the surgeon reassured him everything would be fine. Ana Bárbara was reportedly in surgery until 11 p.m. Sunday night. Shortly after, Miles received a photo from the doctor showing his wife in recovery, still under anesthesia.

According to him, staff initially assured him she was stable. But when he noticed a shift in their demeanor, he became alarmed. “They told me to go to the room. The assistants were acting strangely. I waited 1 hour and 15 minutes to receive her,” he said. “I went down to the ground floor and a doctor said her heart was beating slowly. Another said she was already dead.”
Ana Bárbara had suffered cardiac arrest, and attempts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful. Turkish authorities detained the doctors for questioning but later released them. Tusa Hospital issued a statement denying any malpractice, stating: “Despite all efforts by our expert anesthesiology team, the patient could not be resuscitated.”

Miles and Ana Bárbara met in Rome six years ago and had recently tied the knot in Mozambique. She had been working in a tattoo studio adjacent to a music recording space owned by Miles when they first met.
In a public statement, Miles expressed devastation and demanded accountability. “She was the person who cared for me the most, who loved me the most, who believed in me the most,” he said. “I just want justice to be done and for this case to serve as an example for all people who want to undergo a type of medical intervention like the one Ana underwent.”

In a grief-stricken Instagram tribute, Miles wrote, “Our last few days were too beautiful to end this tragically… I promised to protect and love you like the queen and beautiful person you are inside and out. It doesn’t seem fair living this life without you.”
The incident has sparked renewed concerns about medical tourism and the risks associated with cosmetic surgery abroad.
