LOS ANGELES — National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) defender Savy King was rushed to a hospital Friday night after collapsing during the 74th minute of Angel City's match against the Utah Royals at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.

The 20-year-old collapsed suddenly during the second half, prompting immediate medical response on the field. Emergency personnel tended to her for approximately 10 minutes before she was transported by cart off the field and taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

In an official update early Saturday, Angel City FC confirmed that King was responsive and undergoing further medical evaluation. “Savy King Update: Savy was transported by EMS to the hospital following a medical event on the field. She is responsive and undergoing further evaluation. We thank everyone for their concern and support,” the club posted in a public statement.

Following the match, players from both Angel City and the Utah Royals joined in a moment of unity, gathering for a post-match prayer led by Royals midfielder Alex Loera, who played alongside King last season at Bay FC.

Royals head coach Jimmy Coenraets expressed concern about the decision to continue the match after the medical emergency. “I think that’s not the right situation or position to be in,” Coenraets said. “I think it was a really tough moment and the same after the game. What do you want to focus on after the game? I think at that point, yes, there is a result, there is a game, but I just want to make sure people feel safe, healthy, good and they can actually move on. I think that was also the focus after the game for us.”

King, who has been rising rapidly in American soccer, was called into the U.S. Women’s National Team’s January futures camp and later joined as a training player before the SheBelieves Cup, signaling her as a potential future national team contributor under head coach Emma Hayes.

Her sudden collapse has drawn support and concern from fans, teammates, and professionals across the soccer world, with many awaiting further updates on her condition.
