A devastating tragedy has struck the small town of Madbury, New Hampshire, after a family of four was found dead in what authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide. The victims have been identified as Ryan Long, 48, Emily Long, 34, their son Parker, 8, and daughter Ryan, 6. A toddler was found unharmed at the scene and is now in the care of relatives.
State troopers responded to a 911 call at around 8:21 p.m. on Monday, reporting multiple fatalities inside the Long family home. Upon arrival, officers discovered the four family members fatally shot. The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office confirmed that autopsies will be conducted by the chief medical examiner to determine the official causes of death.

Ryan Long, the father, worked as a school psychologist at Oyster River Middle School, while Emily Long was the director of operations at Wing-Itz, a local restaurant. Property records show the family moved into their five-bedroom home, valued at more than $660,000, in 2020.
Neighbors described the family as loving and close-knit. “It was a perfect family as far as we knew,” said Bevy Ketel, a neighbor, expressing shock at the tragedy.

Emily Long’s social media posts painted a picture of a happy household, with frequent photos of family outings, holidays, and milestones. One image showed the family at New Hampshire’s oldest apple orchard, another depicted them dressed for Easter, and a recent post from last year showed Ryan Long cutting down a Christmas tree with his children. Friends often commented on the photos, praising the family’s joy and togetherness.
Assistant Attorney General Ben Agati said investigators are still searching for answers. “One of the biggest questions they have right now is motive. Why? And I think that’s probably one of the more difficult things that they are trying to grasp, to understand how this came to be and to be able to be more definitive and to understand what the sequence of events was like inside that house.”

Authorities emphasized there is no known threat to the public as the investigation continues. Madbury, with fewer than 2,000 residents, is a quiet community located just over an hour north of Boston and near the University of New Hampshire. Drone and local news footage showed police vehicles surrounding the family’s large blue home as investigators worked through the night.
