A New Mexico man described as an aspiring rapper is in custody after allegedly attacking an eight-year-old girl with a broken beer bottle during a family dinner at a popular Albuquerque restaurant, leaving the child with a severe neck injury that required 19 stitches.

Nichalas San Souci, 24, is accused of smashing a bottle over the girl’s head at Saggios Italian restaurant on the night of April 25. According to court documents, the impact caused a laceration to her neck. Her parents rushed her to a local hospital, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The attack left her with a large swelling on the back of her head and required extensive stitching.

Her father, Britton Rose, described the attack as sudden and horrifying. “No one would ever anticipate something like that happening to a little girl going out for dinner with her family,” he said. “We’re extremely lucky that our daughter wasn’t hurt any worse than she was—or even killed—because that’s what we feel he was trying to do.”

San Souci was arrested on April 26 and booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center. He faces multiple felony charges including child abuse resulting in reckless bodily harm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Authorities say he also attempted to attack the girl’s father with a pocket knife during the incident.

Court records state that San Souci admitted to assaulting the girl because “she got in my way.” However, the child’s father maintains that she did absolutely nothing to provoke the violence.

Prosecutors have argued that San Souci should not be released on bail, citing the extreme and unprovoked nature of the attack. A judge denied bond, and he remains in custody. If convicted, he could face a minimum of 25 years in prison.

Court documents emphasized the severity of the alleged crimes: “This behavior is so extreme and beyond the norms of civil conduct that conditions of release are inappropriate for this defendant.”

San Souci, who pleaded not guilty at his initial court appearance, has an online presence as an aspiring musician under the stage name “San Souci.” He has released several tracks on SoundCloud, including “Get Lifted,” “Fury!!!,” “Slowburn,” and “Rabbit Hole,” with 33 songs and a small online following. His profile bio describes him as “Hailing from in your hallucinations, United States.”
