A teacher at an elite Catholic boys’ school in Ohio has pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual battery after admitting to engaging in a sexual relationship with an 17-year-old student and sending him explicit photos. Emily Nutley, 43, entered her plea in Hamilton County and now faces up to 10 years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for June 10.

The incidents occurred during the fall 2023 semester at St. Xavier High School, a well-known Jesuit institution in Cincinnati. Nutley, who served as the school’s head counselor, initiated the inappropriate relationship with the student shortly after being hired. The student had been enrolled in a support program designed for those struggling academically, which Nutley supervised.

According to prosecutors, the relationship began with nude photographs and sexually explicit messages sent outside of school hours. It escalated in November 2023 when Nutley reportedly performed oral sex on the student, followed by sexual intercourse in December. These encounters took place both on and off school premises.
The student later attempted to end the relationship, but prosecutors say Nutley continued to pursue him. Her actions were uncovered during an internal school investigation, which subsequently led administrators to notify Springfield Township Police. A criminal investigation followed, resulting in her arrest and indictment.

Nutley was terminated from her position in October 2024. Shortly after her arrest, her husband, Jonathan Nutley, filed for divorce. In response, Emily Nutley accused him in court documents of “gross neglect of duty and extreme cruelty” during their marriage.
As part of her guilty plea, Nutley will be required to register as a sex offender for life.
