Authorities in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, are investigating a devastating murder-suicide that has left four dead — including a father, his two children, and the family dog — marking the second fatal tragedy to impact the same family within two years.

On Wednesday around 4 p.m., Broken Arrow Police discovered the bodies of 58-year-old Rodney Shippy, his 10-year-old son Logan Shippy, and a dog inside their residence on West Roanoke Street. A third body, believed to be 20-year-old Alyssa Shippy, was also found later inside the home but was initially missed due to the “condition of the home,” authorities confirmed. The state medical examiner is currently working to confirm her identity.

Police were at the house to serve a search warrant after out-of-state relatives reported that they had not seen or heard from Alyssa since November. Concerns escalated after family members viewed a recent video that revealed troubling conditions inside the home, including a lack of running water and large amounts of trash, raising alarms about the safety and well-being of the household.

This latest tragedy follows a series of harrowing events that have plagued the Shippy family. In August 2022, Lisa Shippy — wife to Rodney and mother of the children — died by suicide at the same home. Five months later, Lisa’s mother, 56-year-old Diane Carpenter, was murdered by her husband, 66-year-old Kenny Carpenter, who then died by suicide after a four-hour standoff with police in south Broken Arrow.

Court documents show the family home was under financial stress. In January, the U.S. Bank National Association filed a foreclosure notice in Tulsa County District Court against the property for $135,000 in unpaid principal. Rodney Shippy had until June to respond to the court filing. Property records confirm Rodney and Lisa had purchased the home in 2021.

Neighbors described 10-year-old Logan as a nonverbal autistic child who frequently played outside and enjoyed sharing videos on YouTube. Residents said Rodney appeared to be managing life after his wife’s death but began withdrawing socially in recent months.

A relative, Patti Williams, expressed heartbreak over the family's descent into isolation, saying, “Not suitable for a child — no running water, trash — looked like a completely different house. [Rodney] seemed to be holding it together months after [Lisa] passed… then he started estranging himself to everyone.”

Police have not yet released the official cause of death for the victims, but investigators are treating the case as a murder-suicide rooted in mental health issues and long-term trauma. The investigation remains ongoing.
