An Oklahoma mother and stepfather have been arrested after allegedly allowing their 11-year-old daughter to become pregnant and deliver a baby inside their home without any medical professionals present.

Dustin Walker and Cherie Walker were taken into custody this week and charged with felony child neglect. The girl, the oldest of six children living in the household, gave birth in the family’s Muskogee County home. Authorities have since removed all six children from the residence.

Few details have been released about the child’s pregnancy, but the victim’s grandmother, who identified herself as Michelle, claimed the family did not know she was expecting. Michelle said the girl told relatives that a 12-year-old boy she once babysat was responsible, describing the incident as youthful curiosity.

A neighbor disputed the family’s account, alleging the Walkers’ home had been in “deplorable” condition, with no running water for two or three years, and said she had previously reported concerns to authorities. She also questioned the family’s claim of being unaware of the pregnancy, saying, “They robbed her of her childhood.”

Michelle defended her daughter and son-in-law, insisting they love their children and arguing that the house was not in the condition neighbors described, blaming any mess on pets getting into the trash.

Muskogee County Assistant District Attorney Janet Hutson called the case heartbreaking and expressed doubt that the parents were unaware. She explained that while the girl was petite, her baby was a normal size and would have made the pregnancy obvious. Hutson added that the Walkers had intentionally kept the girl out of school and away from doctors for more than a year, preventing mandatory reporters from intervening.

“This child is traumatized,” Hutson said. “Not only has somebody gotten her pregnant, but she gave birth at home without medical assistance, and this will affect her for the rest of her life.”

Prosecutors are awaiting DNA test results to determine paternity and said additional charges are likely. Both Dustin and Cherie Walker remain in Muskogee County Jail on $100,000 bond each. A court date has not yet been set.
