On-duty cop arrested for shoplifting $140 shoes while in uniform
A Mississippi police officer, Robin Conner, was apprehended by her fellow officers for allegedly shoplifting sneakers while on duty and in uniform. The incident occurred at a Dick’s Sporting Goods store, where Conner was caught walking out with a $140 pair of tennis shoes, according to Columbus Police Chief Joseph Daughtry.
Daughtry, who was part of the team that arrested Conner, expressed disappointment, stating, “It’s embarrassing for the department, but we’re going to treat her like we would anybody else.”
The arrest took place after a store employee detained Conner for attempting to steal the shoes and called 911. Dispatchers, upon learning that the officer was in uniform, contacted a supervisor at Conner’s precinct, leading to her colleagues arresting her. She was then transported to the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center in her own patrol car.
Conner, 33, was subsequently placed on administrative leave, but the Columbus city council decided unanimously to terminate her employment, as reported by WTVA. She faces a misdemeanor shoplifting charge for stealing goods valued at less than $1,000 and was granted an $862 surety bond.
