A devastating car explosion near a reproductive health facility in Palm Springs, California, on Saturday morning has left one person dead and at least five others injured. Authorities have confirmed that the powerful blast was an intentional act of violence, though the investigation remains ongoing.

The explosion occurred around 11 a.m. local time near the American Reproductive Centers (ARC) clinic, located on North Indian Canyon Drive near East Tachevah Drive. The blast caused significant damage to the building’s office area but spared the in vitro fertilization (IVF) laboratory and all stored embryos.

Palm Springs Police spokesperson Mike Villegas described the explosion as a deliberate act. While officials have not yet confirmed if the deceased individual was directly involved with the vehicle, ARC medical director Dr. Maher Abdallah confirmed that all staff members were safe and accounted for. “Thank God today happened to be a day that we have no patients,” he said.
At least five people sustained injuries in the explosion and were treated by emergency responders. Witnesses described a violent blast that shook nearby buildings and sent a massive plume of smoke into the sky. One witness, Nima Tabrizi, who was inside a nearby cannabis dispensary, said, “The building just shook... We went outside and there was a massive cloud of smoke. It felt like a bomb went off. We went up to the scene, and we saw human remains.”

Palm Springs Police Lieutenant William Hutchinson confirmed that authorities are exploring all possibilities, including terrorism. The FBI and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are actively involved in the investigation. ATF spokesperson Nicole Lozano confirmed that federal investigators were dispatched to the scene to assist in determining the cause and nature of the explosion.
The U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, Bill Essayli, acknowledged the incident and stated that federal authorities were working alongside local responders. California Governor Gavin Newsom also addressed the situation, saying he and his wife Jen were “keeping everyone affected in our hearts” and that the state was collaborating closely with federal agencies.

Despite the destruction to the facility’s front office, ARC stated it would resume operations on Monday and expressed gratitude for the swift response from local emergency services and support from the community. “We are heartbroken to learn that this event claimed a life and caused injuries,” the clinic said in a statement. “Our deepest condolences go out to the individuals and families affected.”
The explosion was felt up to two miles away and prompted authorities to urge residents to avoid the area as a precaution. Video footage from the scene showed severe structural damage to the exterior of the clinic and debris scattered across the area.
Palm Springs, known for its luxury resorts and celebrity clientele, now finds itself at the center of a high-profile investigation. Authorities are expected to provide further updates as they work to uncover the motive and identity of those involved.
