Former Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, made a dramatic return to the Assembly complex on Thursday afternoon, arriving with a contingent of security personnel.
The sudden development follows the withdrawal of security aides attached to the current Speaker, Mojisola Meranda. The move has sparked uncertainty and tension within the Assembly, with sources confirming that Meranda has been left vulnerable and unprotected.
According to reports, Obasa entered the Speaker’s Office around noon, accompanied by security officers. Shortly after, the Chief Press Secretary to Speaker Meranda, Segun Ajiboye, accused Obasa and his team of forcefully breaking into the office.
Speaking to reporters, a source close to the Speaker confirmed that all security personnel attached to the Speaker and the Assembly complex had been withdrawn.
“All the Speaker’s security aides have been withdrawn. All security attached to the Assembly have also been removed. The Speaker is now vulnerable,” the source lamented.

It remains unclear who ordered the security withdrawal, but insiders suggest it could be linked to ongoing political maneuvers within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The power struggle within the Lagos State House of Assembly has taken a new turn following high-level interventions by APC heavyweights, including Chief Bisi Akande and Aremo Olusegun Osoba, both former governors of Osun and Ogun states.
A mediation panel led by Akande and Osoba met with key stakeholders, including members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), at the Governor’s Lodge in Marina last Sunday. The panel reportedly recommended that both Obasa and Meranda step down, paving the way for a new lawmaker from Lagos West to take over as Speaker.
Amid these political negotiations, speculation is growing that Meranda may soon resign.
While Meranda remains without protection, sources close to Obasa revealed that his security aides have been fully reinstated.
“As of this morning, all Obasa’s security aides have been restored,” a source confirmed.
Meanwhile, a member of Meranda’s team, Ganzallo Victor, expressed concern over her lack of security, stating:
“We don’t know why the authorities have done this, but all police officers and other security details attached to her have been withdrawn. She’s on her own at the moment.”
With Obasa back in the Assembly complex and Meranda potentially stepping down, the leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly remains fluid and unpredictable.
