Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, Paul Adefarasin, has voluntarily presented himself at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja amid ongoing investigations into a viral video allegedly showing him in possession of a firearm during a roadside encounter with a content creator.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the development, stating that Pastor Adefarasin is currently being interrogated by detectives. The investigation follows widespread circulation of a video last week, in which the popular cleric is seen holding a metallic object while speaking to a passerby who was recording him on a Lagos road.
The clip quickly went viral, sparking intense speculation online, with several users alleging that the object in Pastor Adefarasin’s hand resembled a gun. The incident drew significant public attention and raised concerns about the legality and safety implications of the act.
In a message to his congregation, which was shared via his official social media channels on Saturday, Pastor Adefarasin addressed the controversy, describing it as a “misunderstanding.” He clarified that the object in the video was not a firearm and firmly stated that he never pointed it at anyone during the interaction.
Despite his explanation, the Lagos State Police initiated an investigation to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident. According to the police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the investigation was prompted by the video evidence and public concern.
“No one is above the law,” Hundeyin emphasized in a message. “Pastor Paul Adefarasin has turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, and is currently being interrogated by detectives.”
He added that officers are probing the incident involving the cleric allegedly pointing a gun-like object at another road user while driving a vehicle without a registered license plate.
Hundeyin affirmed that the police are committed to a transparent process and will make the outcome of the investigation public once concluded.
