Plane crashes near Nashville interstate killing 5 people aboard
A tragic incident unfolded near Nashville, Tennessee, as a single-engine plane crashed just shy of its emergency landing destination, claiming the lives of all five individuals aboard, according to authorities.
Metro Nashville Police Department spokesman Don Aaron relayed that the pilot communicated engine trouble to John C. Tune Airport around 7:40 p.m. Monday. Despite being granted clearance for an emergency landing, the pilot soon radioed that the aircraft wouldn't make it to the airport.
The aircraft erupted into flames upon crashing in a grassy median adjacent to Interstate 40, behind a Costco on the city's westside. The crash site lay approximately 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) south of the intended airport.
"It appears that everyone on board perished," Aaron lamented.

Early Tuesday, police confirmed via the social media platform X that all five occupants had died. The Federal Aviation Administration was present at the scene, with the National Transportation Safety Board slated to arrive Tuesday.
Authorities are in the process of determining the plane's origin.

Thankfully, no drivers on the interstate sustained injuries, as stated by Nashville Fire Department spokesperson Kendra Loney. Additionally, no vehicles or structures on the ground suffered damage.
