Police Arrest Prime Suspect in Murder of 65-Year-Old Woman in Orile Iganmu, Recover Stolen Vehicle

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Abubakar Iliyasu, the prime suspect in the murder of 65-year-old Jane Okoye, who was killed in her residence in the Orile Iganmu area of Lagos on April 2, 2025.


According to a statement by the Command's spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspect was apprehended by detectives from the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba. After days of investigation, Iliyasu was tracked and arrested in Ankpa, Kogi State.


Police reports indicate that Iliyasu forcibly gained access to Okoye’s premises and fled the scene with her Toyota Sienna vehicle. The victim was found unconscious and rushed to a nearby medical facility, where she was later confirmed dead.


Upon taking over the case, the SCID deployed a team of homicide detectives who utilized both intelligence and technical resources to locate and apprehend the suspect. Their efforts led to Iliyasu’s capture and the successful recovery of the stolen Toyota Sienna in good condition. The vehicle has been secured as evidence in the ongoing investigation.


The suspect is currently in custody at SCID, Yaba, and is reportedly cooperating with investigators. Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohunde Jimoh, has assured the public that the case will be thoroughly prosecuted and justice will be served.


Benjamin Hundeyin emphasized that the command remains committed to its responsibility of protecting lives and property across Lagos State.
