Police in Buenos Aires attempted to raid the offices of Medidom, the company responsible for coordinating the home care of football legend Diego Maradona at the time of his death in 2020, only to find that the company had moved from its original address.
The raid was authorized as part of an ongoing criminal trial against seven medical professionals accused of mishandling Maradona's care in the days leading up to his death. Authorities aim to uncover evidence related to the conduct of the accused, who face charges of homicide with possible intent, known in Argentina as dolo eventual. This legal standard applies when an individual continues with a course of action despite being aware that it could lead to death.
A police source confirmed that officers arrived at Medidom’s listed office in Buenos Aires on Wednesday, but discovered the premises had been vacated years prior. A new raid at the current address is being planned.
This marks the second attempted search of a medical institution linked to Maradona's treatment. The first was conducted at Clínica Olivos, the hospital where Maradona underwent brain surgery to remove a blood clot in November 2020, two weeks before his death.

Maradona died on November 25, 2020, at age 60, from heart failure and acute pulmonary oedema while recovering at a rented residence in the Tigre district of Greater Buenos Aires. Prosecutors allege that the medical team overseeing his recovery provided substandard and negligent care, describing the final days of his life as a “horror theatre.”
Among the seven on trial are doctors, nurses, and coordinators employed by either Medidom or Swiss Medical, the company that outsourced Maradona’s home care. If convicted, the defendants could face between eight and 25 years in prison. An eighth defendant, nurse Gisela Madrid, will be tried separately.

Testimonies during the trial have painted a disturbing picture of Maradona's final days, with several witnesses describing his room as dirty and ill-equipped for proper medical treatment. During Tuesday’s hearing, Maradona’s daughter, Gianinna Maradona, testified that she did not observe any nurses actively tending to her father during visits. Instead, she claimed to have seen them sitting “at a table outside” in the garden with other staff members.
The high-profile trial, taking place in San Isidro, a suburb of Buenos Aires, began on March 11 and is expected to continue through July.
