A small private jet crashed into a residential area in San Diego early Thursday morning, setting multiple vehicles and homes ablaze and prompting the evacuation of approximately 100 residents. Emergency crews responded swiftly to the scene in the Murphy Canyon neighborhood after the Cessna 550 aircraft went down around 3:47 a.m.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the aircraft was en route to Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport when it crashed under heavy fog conditions. Officials have not yet confirmed how many individuals were aboard the plane or whether there were any fatalities or injuries.

The crash caused extensive damage to several homes and vehicles in the military housing neighborhood, resulting in a hazardous materials situation due to jet fuel leakage.
"There are multiple cars engulfed, we have jet fuel all over the place. We have hazmat on scene, and we asked for more resources. We are also working with the military," said Assistant San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Chief Dan Eddy. “The main goal moving forward is to ensure all those houses are cleared and no one is inside. Then we will move in the middle where the plane crashed near the cars and search them, then search the plane.”

The wreckage left a direct impact on several homes, and the surrounding area was shrouded in heavy fog, which significantly hindered visibility. “You could barely see in front of you,” Eddy remarked, emphasizing the potential role weather conditions may have played in the crash. However, the cause of the incident remains under investigation.

As of 5:30 a.m., no passengers had been transported from the scene. The Cessna 550 is typically configured to carry between six and eight people.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation into the crash to determine the exact cause and any contributing factors.
