A small aircraft crashed into a residential neighborhood in Simi Valley, California, on the afternoon of May 3, killing two people and a dog on board and igniting fires in two homes. The incident occurred at approximately 1:51 p.m. in the 200 block of High Meadow Street in the Wood Ranch area, east of South Wood Ranch Parkway.

The aircraft, identified by the National Transportation Safety Board as a Vans RV-10—a kit-built, single-engine, fixed-wing plane—was en route from General William J. Fox Airfield in Lancaster to Camarillo Airport. According to County Director of Airports Keith Freitas, the plane took off at 1:19 p.m. and was believed to be based at Camarillo Airport.

Authorities received initial reports of a hillside fire and a plane crash. Firefighters arrived on scene to find the aircraft had impacted a structure, with smoke visible. Simi Valley Police officers located the wreckage in the backyard of a home. The aircraft had struck two adjacent two-story single-family homes, both of which caught fire and sustained structural damage.

The Simi Valley Police Department confirmed that the pilot, a passenger, and a dog aboard the plane died in the crash. The identities of the victims have not been released pending notification of next of kin. No injuries were reported among residents on the ground. Both homes were occupied at the time of the crash, and occupants were safely evacuated.

Approximately 40 firefighters responded to the scene, working to extinguish the fires and conduct overhaul and salvage operations through the afternoon. The wreckage of the plane was so severely damaged that it was initially difficult to identify it as an aircraft.
