At least six students drowned and 24 others were injured during a school trip to a beach in Alexandria, Egypt, after being swept away by dangerous waves and strong currents.
Emergency responders rushed to Abu Talat Beach after reports that students were struggling in the water. A large-scale rescue operation was launched with 16 ambulances deployed to the scene. Despite efforts to save them, six students were pronounced dead at the beach.
Three injured students received treatment on-site, while 21 others were transported to nearby hospitals for further care. Officials confirmed that Abu Talat Beach has now been closed, and red warning flags have been raised across the area to warn the public of hazardous sea conditions.
Egypt’s Ministry of Health urged citizens and visitors to adhere to beach safety guidelines to prevent further tragedies. Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar stated that all necessary emergency medical support is being provided to the affected students and their families.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, including whether adequate safety measures were in place at the beach.
The tragedy comes shortly after another deadly accident in Egypt, when six people died and 39 were rescued after the Sindbad pleasure submarine sank off the coast of Hurghada. The vessel, carrying 45 tourists—mostly Russians, along with travelers from India, Norway, Sweden, and Egypt—went down during a 40-minute reef tour.
Twenty-nine passengers were pulled from shark-infested waters, while nine others sustained injuries. Four victims remain in critical condition. The submarine was owned and operated by the Sindbad Hotel in Hurghada, which runs the popular undersea adventure trips.
