Three children, aged 8 and 10, were rescued by Spanish police in Oviedo after reportedly being confined to their home since December 2021. The siblings—8-year-old twins and their 10-year-old brother—had not been allowed to leave the residence, not even to step into the garden, for over two years. The children were discovered living in what officers described as a "house of horror," filled with trash and devoid of basic hygiene and freedom.

Their German parents were arrested in connection with the case and face charges related to child neglect and unlawful confinement. The children have since been placed into protective care.

The conditions inside the home shocked investigators. The children were forced to sleep in caged beds and wear diapers and face masks indoors. They were denied access to education and had zero contact with the outside world. A concerned neighbor, who observed that the children had never attended school and were never seen outside, alerted local authorities.

Reports indicate that when officers entered the home during a widespread power outage on Monday, the parents initially insisted that police also wear face masks. According to police, the mother holds dual German and U.S. citizenship. The family's specific origin within Germany remains unknown.

Upon being led outside for the first time in years, one of the children touched grass with fascination. An investigator present during the rescue said, "As soon as we got them out, all three began to take deep breaths as if they had never been in the fresh air before."
