Four people were killed and at least 18 others injured on Wednesday, July 17, after a stolen car collided with a transport bus on South Interstate 35 near the Leon Creek area in San Antonio, Texas.
The crash occurred around 2 p.m. local time when a white Chevrolet Camaro, reported stolen and carrying four individuals, slammed into a bus towing a trailer. According to San Antonio Police Chief Bill McManus, two senior adults were pronounced dead at the scene. Two additional victims later succumbed to their injuries Thursday night.
The stolen vehicle was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash. All four occupants of the Camaro fled the scene on foot, prompting an active manhunt. One of the suspects was reportedly armed with an assault rifle, according to police.
The injured victims included people of all ages, ranging from young children to senior adults. They were transported to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment. Authorities said the bus, operated by Transportes Guerra, was en route from Fort Worth, Texas, to Mexico.
Transportes Guerra released a statement asking family members of passengers to contact their offices at 830-319-5168, 862-109-7187, or 682-758-1055 for further information.
The San Antonio Police Department has launched an investigation into the crash and the suspects involved. No arrests had been made as of Thursday evening.
