Stolen Car Fatally Strikes Two in Manhattan Chinatown Crash

Two people were killed in a violent crash Saturday morning in Manhattan’s Chinatown after a stolen vehicle barreled through a traffic median and struck a cyclist and a pedestrian.

The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Bowery and Canal streets. A blue Chevy Malibu, previously reported stolen and identified as a rental vehicle, sped through the median and violently struck a male cyclist in his 30s and a 63-year-old woman sitting on a nearby bench.

The blue Chevrolet Malibu flew off the Manhattan Bridge, and fatally plowed into the elderly woman and a man on a bicycle, cops said

The woman, later identified as Mary Kwok, was killed instantly. The male victim was also pronounced dead at the scene after suffering catastrophic injuries. Shocking footage of the collision shows the vehicle slamming into both victims with immense force before crashing into an unoccupied NYPD van.

The driver, 23-year-old Autumn Donna Ascencio Romero, fled the scene on foot alongside her passenger, 22-year-old Kennedy LaCraft. Both were apprehended shortly afterward by responding officers. Authorities recovered drugs and alcohol from inside the stolen vehicle.

Romero is also facing legal trouble in a separate case involving an April 13 crash in Brooklyn that injured a bystander. Charges in the current case are pending as police continue to investigate.
