An unfortunate incident has transpired at the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) Owerri, resulting in the tragic death of a student. According to reports, a clash between rival cult groups occurred on the institution's premises Friday morning, leaving multiple individuals injured.

The chaotic situation reportedly erupted when a group of students from Imo State University (IMSU) entered the FUTO campus on motorcycles, initiating a confrontation.

Regrettably, amidst the altercation, the FUTO Man O War commander was fatally stabbed in the neck by one of the IMSU students, leading to his untimely demise.

The loss of life and the injuries sustained have cast a shadow of grief and disbelief over the university community, as revealed by this news platform.

In a separate unfortunate incident, a zookeeper identified as Olabode Olawuyi was tragically killed by a 9-year-old male lion at the Zoological Garden of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, just two weeks prior.

Naija News reports that Olawuyi, a Veterinary Technologist who had been overseeing the Zoological Garden for over a decade, was attacked while feeding the wild cats in their enclosure.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the university, Abiodun Olarewaju, stated that despite efforts by other staff members to rescue Olawuyi, the lion had already inflicted severe injuries.

Expressing condolences to Olawuyi's family, the university spokesman announced that the management had initiated a comprehensive investigation into the immediate and underlying causes of the incident.

Olarewaju remarked, "Mr. Olawuyi had been caring for the lions since their birth on campus approximately 9 years ago, but tragically, the male lion turned on the man who had been tending to them."

Upon receiving the distressing news, the management team, under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof Adebayo Bamire, promptly adjourned an ongoing meeting to conduct an on-the-spot assessment.
