Teen Arrested for Sexual Abuse of Elderly Woman on Louisville Porch

Jan Fletcher, 78, was groped by a 13-year-old teen while sitting on her porch in Louisville, Kentucky Saturday afternoon.

A 13-year-old boy has been charged after allegedly groping a 78-year-old woman on the porch of her Louisville home. The incident occurred on a Saturday afternoon as Jan Fletcher was sitting outside her residence.

The unidentified teenager approached Fletcher, asking for directions to a nearby park. Surveillance video captured the suspect moving behind the elderly woman and brushing her backside several times, appearing to dust something off. The situation then escalated into an inappropriate groping assault. Fletcher recounted demanding he stop, stating, “As soon as that happened, I said, 'Let me tell you something, you better get out of here and you better go now'. So he did. He was gone.”

Fletcher reported that the teen also asked if anyone else was inside the home during the incident, leading her to believe a robbery was a potential motive. The Louisville Metro Police Department arrested the juvenile on Friday. He has been charged with third-degree sexual abuse. Police confirmed the suspect does not reside in the neighborhood where the attack took place and stated, “We hope this arrest relieves some of the fear and embarrassment the innocent woman suffered.”

Expressing her confusion over the attack, Fletcher said, “I really hate that these young people are out here doing stuff... what reason do you get? What enjoyment do they get out of doing stuff? I don't understand it.” Despite the disturbing event, Fletcher asserts she is not scared and has returned to enjoying her porch. A 55-year resident of the home, she described the area as a quiet neighborhood with great neighbors.

Fletcher has demanded an explanation and an apology from the boy. Local authorities are reminding the public, especially elderly residents, to remain aware of their surroundings, trust their instincts, and alert officials to any suspicious activity.

This case follows a recent sentencing in a similar, though more severe, attack in Florida. In that incident, 15-year-old Jesse Stone was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the brutal assault and rape of a 91-year-old neighbor in Reddick on June 9, 2024. Stone, who was 14 at the time, sneaked into the woman's home while she slept, covered her face with a pillow, and attacked her.
