A 17-year-old girl, Annalyse Blyton, has died after being mauled by a large mixed-breed dog while visiting a friend’s home in Singleton, New South Wales, Australia.
Emergency services were called to Broughton Street at around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 4, where police found Blyton with severe injuries to her head, neck, and body. The attack was carried out by a 10-year-old dog in a fenced yard, identified as a cross between a boxer, bull Arab, and Irish wolfhound.
Passersby managed to pull the animal away while calling for help. Blyton was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital. Despite intensive medical care, she died on Monday, September 8.

“This is absolutely heartbreaking,” said Hunter MP Dan Repacholi. “When something like this happens, the community gets around one another and I really hope that everybody's looking after the family as best they can.”
Police confirmed the dog was destroyed with the owner’s permission following the attack. The owner reportedly told Acting Hunter Valley Local Area Police Commander Justin Cornes that the dog’s actions were “out of character.”

Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the fatal mauling, and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
Blyton was a student at Singleton High School, where tributes have since poured in from classmates, teachers, and community members. A spokesperson for the Department of Education said they were “deeply saddened” by her death and expressed condolences to her family and friends. Additional support has been made available for students and staff.
