An 18-year-old woman was killed in a tragic hit-and-run boating accident on Grapevine Lake in Texas over Memorial Day weekend. The victim, identified as Ava Moore, was kayaking on the lake Sunday evening when she was fatally struck by a jet ski, according to authorities.
The jet ski, carrying a driver and a passenger, collided with Moore on the water. While the passenger remained at the scene to speak with first responders, the driver fled, accompanied by another adult male. As they attempted to escape, the two men reportedly struck another vehicle, prompting an additional hit-and-run investigation.

Grapevine Lake, located roughly 20 miles northwest of Dallas and northeast of Fort Worth, is a popular destination for boating and water sports, especially during holiday weekends.
Grapevine Police are actively investigating the automotive hit-and-run, while the Texas Game Wardens are leading the investigation into Moore’s death on the water. Authorities have released an image of the suspected jet ski operator and are urging the public to assist with identifying the individual. Tips can be submitted to Grapevine Police detectives at cidmail@grapevinetexas.gov.

“Our thoughts are with Ava’s family and friends during this difficult time. Texas Game Wardens remain committed to keeping our public waters safe,” the Grapevine Police Department said in a statement.
