A 55-year-old man has been found guilty of deliberately driving his Mercedes SUV into his son during a heated confrontation at a car wash in Dalmuir, near Glasgow. The incident, which occurred in July 2021, stemmed from a family dispute over allegations of infidelity.
Kamil Mohammed Nadir accelerated his vehicle into 40-year-old Rebath Kamil, pinning him against a wall. CCTV footage captured the moment the SUV plowed through the washing area, smashing into large barrels of water and sending them bursting on impact.
Witnesses reported that the altercation began after Nadir’s wife separated from him, and he accused Rebath of informing his siblings that he had been seeing another woman. Arriving at the car wash, Nadir confronted his sons and was heard shouting, "I will kill you all." Moments later, he drove directly at Rebath, who was seen walking away from a vehicle.

During police questioning, Rebath stated that his father had deliberately tried to kill him, claiming that if the intention had only been to scare him, he would have stopped the car. However, in court, Rebath denied making these statements, asserting that his English was not proficient enough to articulate them. He further claimed not to remember the incident and expressed love for his father, even asking to approach him in court to kiss his hand.
Another son, Datsan, initially told police that he and his brother Daban physically restrained and attacked their father after the incident to prevent him from leaving. He recalled Rebath screaming, "You tried to kill me over a woman," while Nadir continued making threats. However, in court, Datsan retracted parts of his statement, saying he had "fabricated" details and could not remember exactly what had happened.

The prosecution challenged these inconsistencies, asserting that Nadir had made direct threats in Kurdish before driving into his son. The court also heard claims that Nadir, a respected leader in the local Kurdish community, had been involved in negotiating the separation between his wife and himself, which contributed to tensions within the family.

Despite attempts to alter witness statements, the jury found Nadir guilty of assault to the danger of life following a three-day trial. The judge, Scott Pattison, remanded him into custody, emphasizing the gravity of the attack.
"It seems to me you drove your car right at him as he worked and that you did that deliberately and at speed," the judge stated. "It was good fortune that he was not fatally injured. The course of your offending constitutes very serious violence."
