Texas Church Volunteer Sentenced to 5 Years for Having Sex with Son's 13-Year-Old Friend

Natalie Sorrells was sentenced to five years in prison for sexually assaulting her son’s friend

A 44-year-old Texas mother and former church volunteer has been sentenced to five years in prison for sexually assaulting her son's 13-year-old friend over nearly a year. Natalie Sorrells of Heath, a city located approximately 25 miles east of Dallas, was convicted on two counts of indecency with a child and ordered to pay a $10,000 fine.

Sorrells was arrested in February 2024 after the victim’s mother discovered deleted text messages in which Sorrells referred to the boy as "babe." The teen later disclosed to his mother that Sorrells had molested him multiple times. According to an arrest affidavit, the abuse began in April 2023 and included sexual encounters in a car after a football game and at a party for Sorrells’ son.

During a forensic interview, the victim revealed that Sorrells’ husband once called her during an assault to question if she was cheating on him. The teen also told authorities that Sorrells provided him and other minors with alcohol and tobacco on several occasions.

Though initially charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, those charges were dismissed as part of a plea deal. Sorrells received two 30-month sentences for the indecency convictions, to be served consecutively, totaling five years in prison.

Sorrells had previously volunteered at Lakepointe Church in Rockwall, though church officials confirmed the misconduct did not occur on church property or during church-related activities. She was released on bond following her arrest but will now begin her prison term.
