Philadelphia rapper Phat Geez aka Derrick Gant was shot and killed on Sunday evening

The murder of rapper Phat Geez, whose real name is Derrick Gant, was captured on a home security camera in Brewerytown, Philadelphia.


The footage shows Geez exiting a house and approaching a parked car on North Taney Street, where an argument escalated into gunfire. Despite efforts to save him, Geez succumbed to his injuries at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

The Philadelphia Police Department is yet to make any arrests but is hopeful that the Ring camera footage will aid in identifying the killer.


Geez's funeral drew hundreds of mourners, highlighting his positive impact and advocacy against gun violence.

His family finds solace in their faith during Ramadan but remains in shock and grief over his untimely death.


Gant was shot several times and left bleeding in the street and writhing in agony

Geez's activism against gun violence was evident in his music, notably with the release of "No Gunzone," a poignant reflection of Philadelphia's rising murder rate.


Fellow rapper Meek Mill expressed sorrow over the tragic loss, emphasizing the ongoing challenges faced by the Black community in Philadelphia.
