Three multimillion-dollar homes in Southern California are now on the brink of collapse following a mudslide over the weekend.
The incident unfolded in Dana Point, Orange County, on Friday, with mud and debris cascading into the 150-foot chasm below.
As of Sunday, no evacuations had been mandated, and teams of engineers were evaluating the structural stability of the homes, the sole structures perched on the cliff's edge.
Residents of the affected properties have been urged to remain vigilant and prepare for the imminent possibility of relocation.
These three homes, valued at around $12.8 million to $15.9 million each, are now largely subject to the whims of nature, although recent rains that inundated the region seem to have abated.
On Friday, City Manager Mike Killebrew reassured residents of the upscale street and neighboring areas that the situation was being managed. "At this juncture, there are no compromised structures, and there appears to be no impact on lateral access to the beach," he stated.
Meanwhile, remnants of the substantial earth chunk that dislodged at the cliff's base were visible.
A portal leading to the Dana Point Caves remained intact a few hundred feet from the collapse, along with the stretch of beach referenced by Killebrew.
Adjacent to the Ocean Institute, another popular tourist destination, sat the trio of houses, a symbol of status in the affluent locale, precariously positioned next to the cliff.
Debris from the collapse area spilled near the tide pools, explained Killebrew, situated within a Marine Protected Area (MPA) accessible from the beach and surrounding trails.
