A nursing mother, Mrs. Ogechi Eze, from Ikeduru LGA of Imo State, recounted a harrowing experience where police officers from the Tiger Base unit of the Imo Command allegedly subjected her and her young children to brutal treatment, nearly costing their lives.
According to Mrs. Eze, the ordeal began when over five police officers forcefully entered their home one night to arrest her husband.
Finding him absent, they interrogated and assaulted her to extract information about his whereabouts. She recounted how she demanded to see their arrest warrant, only to receive a heavy slap and blows to her eyes from the officers. Dragged inside her house to prevent neighbors from witnessing the assault, Mrs. Eze alleged that her children, including her little daughter and eldest son, were also subjected to violence.
Speaking in Igbo, she described being choked and beaten until she could barely breathe, narrowly escaping death when she managed to hit one of the officers with a stick, causing him to release her.
The Imo State Police Command, through ASP Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident and stated that Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma ordered the immediate arrest of the accused officers.
The X-Squad disciplinary unit was tasked with conducting a comprehensive investigation into the matter. The police reiterated their commitment to upholding professionalism and protecting citizens' rights, promising to take appropriate disciplinary action against any officer found guilty of misconduct.
Further updates on the case will be provided to the public in due course.
