Authorities in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, are investigating the death of TikTok creator and hairstylist Maurice Harrison, known online as @Girlalala, who was discovered shot in the front passenger seat of a vehicle during a medical call. Harrison, a well-known “wig influencer” from Pompano Beach with more than 284,000 TikTok followers and nearly 42,000 on Instagram, was transported to a local medical center where she was pronounced dead.
Investigators allege that Harrison and her boyfriend, Shanoyd Whyte Jr., were involved in a verbal dispute that escalated into a physical altercation inside Whyte Jr.’s vehicle. According to detectives, Whyte Jr. stated the two had been in a relationship for “several years.” At some point during the altercation, Harrison was shot while seated inside the car. Whyte Jr. was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree murder with a firearm. He is being held without bond.

Harrison’s death has sparked an outpouring of grief across social media, where fans and fellow creators mourned the loss of the vibrant stylist known for her humor, bold personality, and distinctive hair artistry. A GoFundMe created to support funeral arrangements surpassed its $25,000 goal, raising more than $28,000. Among the contributors was rapper JT of City Girls, who donated $5,000 and shared a tribute video featuring Harrison on Instagram.
“Rest beautiful Girlala,” JT wrote. “We love you, and Heaven will never be boring now that you are there. Your boldness, energy, humor, and beauty will be missed. You never missed a chance to show me love, and for that I'm forever grateful. I'm sorry this happened to you.”

Fans echoed similar sentiments on the fundraiser page, remembering Harrison as genuine, kind, and influential beyond her local community. One supporter wrote, “She not only reached her hometown but touched hearts of people all around the world. She was loved and well respected.”
Harrison’s family thanked supporters, writing on the GoFundMe page that they appreciate “every prayer, kind thought, and gesture during our time of bereavement,” and will share additional information about funeral arrangements once finalized.
