TikTok Star Chrystofer Whyte Fatally Shot at 18 After Posting Inspirational Videos; Two Teens Charged

Chrystofer Whyte, an 18-year-old TikTok influencer with a following of over 100,000 users, was fatally shot in Long Branch, New Jersey, on Thursday, June 12. According to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, two teenagers—one a juvenile and the other 18 years old—have been charged in connection with his murder.
Whyte, known for his engaging dance and lip-sync videos, had recently posted several poignant and motivational messages to his TikTok account shortly before his death. His final video, posted the same day he was killed, shows him sitting on a crowded beach in a swimsuit. The clip has since garnered over 6 million views, drawing heartfelt comments from fans who were stunned by the tragedy.
One day before the fatal shooting, Whyte shared a video captioned, "I don't know, man, I've just got this crazy confidence that everything will work out in the end." Viewers responded with grief, noting the painful irony of the post’s optimism in light of his sudden death. "Well this is heartbreaking," one comment read. Another said, "This world is so cruel."
In another video shared on June 12, Whyte offered a warning to his followers: "Stay away from [people] that ignore you until they need you." The clip has since become a memorial, with users leaving tributes in the comment section. “It’s sad we just never know our last day. Rest in paradise,” one user wrote. Another added, “This isn’t how you were supposed to be known 💔.”
One commenter who claimed to be Whyte's former teacher recalled him as a student. “Chrys was in my class my very first year of teaching,” she wrote. “This is so sad. Sending condolences and praying for his family at this time.”
Authorities responded to a call reporting gunshots and found Whyte with fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The juvenile suspect has been charged with multiple offenses, including murder, conspiracy to commit unlawful possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a prohibited weapon, and hindering apprehension. His identity remains confidential due to his age, and he is currently being held at a juvenile detention facility.
The second suspect, identified as 18-year-old Dwayne Exilus, faces charges of second-degree conspiracy to commit unlawful possession of a weapon (handgun), second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, third-degree hindering, and fourth-degree possession of a prohibited weapon.
The investigation into Whyte’s murder remains ongoing, as authorities continue to gather evidence and determine a motive.
