Tory Lanez has reportedly been stabbed while serving time at a California prison. The 32-year-old rapper, currently incarcerated at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, was allegedly attacked by another inmate on Monday morning while in the prison yard.

Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, sustained injuries that are not considered life-threatening. He was transported by ambulance to a civilian hospital in Bakersfield for treatment, according to a source familiar with the incident. The motive behind the alleged stabbing remains unclear at this time.

The rapper is serving a 10-year sentence for shooting hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion in July 2020. He was convicted in December 2022 on three felony charges: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

During the high-profile trial, Megan testified that Lanez shot at her feet while yelling at her to "dance" as she exited an SUV after a party at Kylie Jenner’s home in the Hollywood Hills. She later underwent surgery to remove bullet fragments from her feet.

At the sentencing hearing in August 2023, Judge David Herriford remarked on the contrast between the positive character testimonials presented by Lanez’s family and friends and his actions that night. “Sometimes good people do bad things,” Herriford said. “Actions have consequences, and there are no winners in this case.”

In a written statement read aloud in court by a prosecutor, Megan said, “Since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace. Slowly but surely, I'm healing and coming back, but I will never be the same.”

Lanez, who faced up to 22 years in prison, had pleaded for a lighter sentence or probation before the court handed down the 10-year term. “If I could turn back the series of events that night and change them, I would,” Lanez told the judge. “The victim was my friend. The victim is someone I still care for to this day. Everything I did wrong that night, I take full responsibility for.”

Lanez had already served 10 months at the time of sentencing, which was credited toward his sentence. His attorney, Jose Baez, expressed disappointment with the outcome, claiming the lengthy sentence was intended to make an example out of his client due to his celebrity status. “He’s not an example — he’s a human being,” Baez said. He added that other, more severe crimes have resulted in shorter sentences.

Baez also confirmed the legal team plans to appeal the conviction and request bail for Lanez during the process.

Prosecutors praised Megan Thee Stallion, whose legal name is Megan Pete, for her strength in testifying despite facing intense public scrutiny and online abuse. Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said, “I hope that Miss Pete’s bravery gives hope to those who feel helpless.”

Lanez’s current condition following the stabbing has not been publicly disclosed, and no official statements have been issued by prison authorities or his legal team regarding the incident.
