A drunken tourist in Pattaya, Thailand, was knocked unconscious by a bouncer after he assaulted a bar worker during Songkran celebrations on Soi 6. The incident, captured on CCTV, unfolded after the shirtless holidaymaker lifted a 33-year-old waitress named May over his head, causing her to hit her head on an air conditioning unit.

Despite efforts to de-escalate the situation, the tourist continued to misbehave, ultimately challenging the bouncers to a boxing match. One of the guards, trained in Muay Thai, responded with a single punch that sent the man to the ground. The bouncer then continued to subdue the tourist with additional strikes as a friend of the man attempted to intervene.
Police later confirmed that no formal complaints had been filed by the assaulted women, but both the security personnel and bar staff were brought in for questioning. The men involved, including the bouncer and bar manager, later apologized on camera for their reaction and acknowledged that their actions could damage the town’s reputation.

The bouncer explained that the tourist had been ejected from another bar earlier the same evening, and that the confrontation began after he physically harassed a woman at the establishment.
Anek Sarathongyu, Superintendent of Pattaya City Police Station, stated, “The tourist was drunk and misbehaving. He harassed a woman at the bar by lifting her and groping her, which led to the confrontation.”

Eyewitness Nick Rizal, who observed the incident, noted the tourist’s arrogance and disorderly behavior throughout the night. “The guy had been annoying one of the girls in the bar. The guards tried to get him to leave peacefully. But challenging a bouncer in Thailand is never a good idea—he had it coming.”
The altercation highlights ongoing concerns about tourist misconduct in Pattaya, a city long associated with its nightlife scene. Thai authorities are working to rebrand Pattaya into a family-friendly and secure travel destination. Measures include installing more street lighting and surveillance systems, organizing music festivals for younger audiences, and developing new infrastructure such as a tram system and cruise ship terminal. Officials are also seeking to attract “high value” visitors rather than those drawn to alcohol-fueled tourism.
